The event sector needs your support!

The next step towards its own joint committee for the event sector is the recognition of the Event Confederation as an official Belgian representative employers' organization. For this we need your weight in the number of companies represented and employees in the event sector.

Recently, without much publicity, many employees who fall under PC200 and who work in companies with NACE code 82300 (organization of fairs and conferences) and who passed the NSSO test were automatically moved to PC126, the joint committee of wood and upholstery (workers) representing carpenters and cabinet makers.

This PC is of course very well placed to watch over the interests of the wood and upholstery sector. However, this sector differs markedly from the event sector in terms of structure and organization as well as from a market perspective.

The interests of the organizers of fairs and congresses would therefore from now on be defended by the carpenters and cabinet makers, who have a very different character from our sector. In practice, this also means, for example, that it is the carpenters and furniture makers who will negotiate the labor law rules for the organization of trade fairs.

That does not seem like a good thing for the events sector to us. The Event Confederation and its affiliated event federations have therefore rightly called on their members to object to this automatic transfer of their employees to PC126.

We don't want to hear stories like this anymore from now on.

That is why the creation of its own joint committee for the events sector is so important. After all, the application for a personal PC can only be made by a recognized employers' organization that can carry sufficient weight as a representative of the entire sector. And that is precisely the problem: the fragmentation of the sector. If we learned one thing from the corona crisis, it is that we are so fragmented as a sector that it was difficult to be heard by the many Belgian stakeholders.

With the establishment of the Event Confederation, we have taken a first step in the right direction to unite the sector, so that we can act as one strong block, with one voice and the ear of the various governments, employee and employer organizations, and many other stakeholders. That first step has already been successful, as evidenced by the response of the minister

"That makes the need even greater to indeed unite as a sector." - Hilde Crevits, Flemish Minister of Economy

However, this is not enough for us to fully engage in the existing model of social dialogue. As an employers' organization, let alone as a sector, we simply do not exist there at the moment. We are many, we have been active on various fronts for a long time, but we are not there (yet) in this social consultation.

The next step is therefore the recognition of the Event Confederation as an official Belgian representative employers' organization. The Social Status working group within the Event Confederation therefore wants to start the procedure for recognition as an employer organization soon.

This is important because the official application for a personal PC can only be made by a recognized employers' organization that can carry sufficient weight and can serve as a point of contact for the entire sector. And as long as we do not have our own PC as an event sector, as a recognized employers' organization we can also claim representation in the various other joint committees that currently include the many event companies. Also in PC126.

To realize this ambition, we need you and your network!

Therefore this express appeal: join one of the federations of the Event Confederation (ACC, BESA, Febelux). We need your weight in number of companies and employees represented in the event industry to provide lobby power to the Event Confederation. Also speak to your event network to motivate them to take this step as well.

The ultimate goal is to bring together all companies & freelancers who realize at least 50% of their activities in the event sector. Your economic weight ensures that we can act as one block, one force, one strong sector, by analogy with the catering federation, for example.

May we ask you to confirm your commitment to the sector with membership of one of the federations?

You not only get a strong professional federation in return, but also a number of great member benefits.
