The Shop DSM Event Center

The Shop DSM Event Center is a multi-level venue in downtown Des Moines for organisers planning weddings, receptions, corporate gatherings, fundraisers and private celebrations. Its historic building brings together three distinct spaces, giving organisers different settings to use across one event or to shape a gathering around a single room.

The main hall is the largest space, suited to dinners, conferences and larger celebrations. Its industrial character provides a flexible backdrop, with tables and chairs available, plus a projector, screen and microphone for presentations. Depending on the layout, the hall can accommodate seated dinners for around 200 guests or larger standing receptions.

The rooftop offers an open-air setting with views across downtown. It can host ceremonies, cocktail hours and company socials, with room for around 115 guests. The basement lounge provides a more informal option, with lounge seating, a pool table, televisions and a bar. It can work for smaller gatherings, wedding-party preparations or as an additional space alongside the main hall and rooftop.

Every rental includes access to all three levels, so organisers have indoor and outdoor options and can use the spaces for different parts of the programme. The venue has lift access, parking nearby and a dedicated wedding suite. Bar service and bartenders are available through the venue, while organisers may bring in a licensed caterer of their choice. The Shop DSM is owned and operated by firefighters and their families, and rental proceeds support organisations and families connected to the fire service. Special rates are available for eligible non-profits, service members and first responders.
