SMILE Station

SMILE Station is a community-owned venue in Portland's Sellwood neighbourhood, offering a welcoming setting for private celebrations, meetings and community gatherings. Housed in a former fire station dating from 1926, the space combines historic character with practical facilities for organisers planning events of different kinds.

The main floor can accommodate up to 90 people standing, with dining arrangements for around 75. Tables and chairs are provided, and renters can use the commercial kitchen, projector system, fireplace and baby grand piano. The building also has accessible facilities, including two accessible toilets. For events needing a separate, quieter area, the lower-level Hainley-Leipzig Room can be added to the booking.

The venue is suited to birthday parties, showers, family reunions, graduation celebrations, fundraisers, performances, recitals and wedding receptions, as well as business and community meetings. Organisers can use the outdoor grounds in suitable weather, creating extra room for guests, meals or activities. Food and drink are permitted, and the venue does not require renters to use a particular caterer. Food trucks may also be arranged for outdoor events.

SMILE Station is rented as a self-service space, with access provided for the booked period. Its location is a short distance from central Portland and close to Oaks Pioneer Church Chapel, which may be useful for couples planning a reception nearby. With its flexible layout, useful event equipment and community-focused ownership, the venue offers organisers a practical option for gatherings on a modest scale.
