The Oval Office kicked off the Flanders Food Festival during a well-attended meeting in the presence of Flemish Tourism Minister Zuhal Demir. Under the motto 'Time to bite back!' the Flanders Food Festival wants to give the catering and culinary sector in Flanders a boost on the initiative of VISITFLANDERS - in collaboration with Horeca Vlaanderen and VVSG. From October 1 to November 14, the local gastronomy will be celebrated with all kinds of initiatives in restaurants, bars, brasseries, hotels, ... spread all over Flanders. One of the initiatives of the Flanders Food Festival is the first edition of Open Producers Day on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October, where hundreds of local producers, makers, breeders, brewers and growers open their doors to the general public and during guided tours and tastings share top products and their craftsmanship. Participating producers and catering players still have a month to sign up. The Flanders Food Festival is an organization of EventFlanders in close collaboration with The Oval Office.
Time to bite back!
This autumn, Tourism Flanders will put the culinary sector back on the map for more than a month with Flanders Food Festival. National and international visitors will be able to spoil their taste buds again at many unique culinary experiences where catering establishments, producers as well as cities and municipalities show themselves from their best side.
Dries Mahieu, Client Director The Oval Office: “The culinary sector has been tested heavily in the last 18 months, now it is time to give a taste of local gastronomy. With the campaign 'Time to bite back!' and the platform www.flandersfoodfestival.be , we invite everyone to plan culinary trips and (re)discover local gastronomy between 1 October and 24 November.”
Zuhal Demir, Flemish Minister for Tourism: “Hunger makes food and there is more than ever the desire to enjoy everything that our Flemish gastronomy has to offer. The sector has suffered badly. It can therefore symbolically not be more beautiful than that from 1 October, when almost all measures are abolished, we all put Flemish gastronomy in the spotlight and invite everyone to immerse themselves en masse in Flanders Food Festival.”
This autumn, The Oval Office is also responsible for organizing the prestigious 'World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards' in Antwerp and the 'UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism' in Bruges.
