IPSIG stands for 'Interprofessional collaboration in healthcare'. The University of Antwerp organises the module, in collaboration with Artesis Plantijn Hogeschool, Karel de Grote Hogeschool, Thomas More Hogeschool and Hogeschool Zeeland. The aim is to bring students from various healthcare programmes – medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing and midwifery, nutrition, speech therapy etc. – into contact with each other, and thus learn to work together efficiently and problem-solving in a team.

This year, the IPSIG week was completely online and the organization approached Ecco La Luna for an online introduction game. The big challenge: how do we introduce 1017 students to their study group in an informal way during a 2-hour online session. In total, it involved 58 study groups (of which 2 were completely English-speaking) with 1017 students and 98 tutors or supervisors.

In September 2020, we held an online brainstorm with Giannoula Tsakitzidis from the University of Antwerp and her colleagues on how to approach this. In the end, we built a game around the 5 steps of "learning with, from and about each other", namely "Getting to know each other, Making a plan, Reflection/Evaluation, Ethical conduct and Communication". A number of questions and assignments were linked to each step and for each completed part, the team earned a piece of fuel for their rocket and a hint to crack the launch code. The goal was to launch their rocket within the game time and fly into the IPSIG week.

Since Ecco La Luna can customize everything in-house within the framework of a stable and globally used free app “Mobile Adventures”, it was possible to develop such a custom-made game in a budget-friendly way. The participants were sent clear instructions in advance to download the app and to log in to their zoom meeting on time. Since we had over 1000 participants last minute, we decided to set up 2 separate Zoom meetings, each with their own game host and game support. One meeting had a good 700 participants and the other meeting a good 400 participants.

During the briefing video, the participants were linked to their specific breakout room based on their learning groups, where they then played the game for 90' after the briefing and got to know their fellow students. The game also included a few photo and video assignments that focused on getting to know each other and teamwork. Ultimately, 90% of the teams succeeded in launching their rocket within the allotted time.

The feedback from both the organization and the participants was extremely positive and certainly gives us extra confidence to continue developing tailor-made online engagement programs through our online team building solution.
