SpongyFun • Teambuilding with a twist

SpongyFun organizes team-building events and city games for groups looking for something different from the classic offerings. No predictable tasks or rigidly mapped-out routes, but activities you experience together and help shape along the way.

You head into the city as a team, but exactly what happens is not entirely fixed. You consult, experiment, make choices, and encounter other teams along the way. The game moves along with what happens, and that is precisely what creates pace, variety, and sometimes an unexpected twist.

Our selection includes City Battle and Connect Three, among others. These are games that start simply but gain more layers along the way. Teams find their own way of playing, make decisions, and adjust their approach where necessary. In this way, the game grows naturally without becoming complicated.

We love a playful twist. A challenge that is just slightly different. An unexpected element. A moment where you step outside your usual routine. That slight edge makes the game lively and ensures it sticks.

With 44 participants divided into eight teams, management, floor managers, and other employees headed into the city for a SpongyFun City Battle. The result? A sunny afternoon full of teamwork, healthy competition, surprising discoveries, and ...

-- Looking for an original team building activity in your own city --

For their team day, Center Parcs Erperheide gathered its employees at CC 't Poorthuis in Peer. The morning was entirely dedicated to collaboration, with a lecture on teamwork.

For the afternoon, the organizers sought an activity that seamlessly aligned with the theme. The participants did not all know each other equally well, creating a need for an accessible activity that brought people together. Through a search for a city game in Peer, they came across SpongyFun and City Battle.

-- Eight teams, one mission --

Under a radiant summer sun, eight teams took on the challenge. Each team was tasked with collecting as many points as possible by successfully completing assignments, puzzles, creative challenges, and search tasks.

It soon became clear that each team had its own approach. Some groups first took ample time to review all the assignments and develop a strategy. Other teams hit the ground running and started the first challenges without much consultation.

These different styles made for a fascinating competition. Some participants literally ran from task to task to lose not a second, while other teams deliberately opted for a slower pace.

-- A city full of surprises --

During the City Battle, the center of Peer became the playground for dozens of creative challenges. Photo assignments proved particularly popular: more than 80 percent of all 'Foto Fun' assignments were successfully completed.

The 'Village Fool' round, in which participants have to make creative videos and sometimes step out of their comfort zone, also proved to be a huge success.

According to the mayor (aka the jury), a few videos really stood out. The videos regarding 'Look at my sunglasses', 'The pigeons in the vegetable garden', and 'Two Italians after a Vespa accident' brought plenty of smiles during the judging.

An unexpected starring role was reserved for a road worker who carried out work in the center of Peer during the game. Because various assignments required taking a photo of specific people, objects, or colors, he appeared multiple times in the submissions of different teams.

-- Flamingo hunt adds extra excitement --

One of the most striking storylines of the day was the search for the hidden flamingos.

For the first time in the history of City Battle, all eight flamingos were found. The tips shared via Instagram Stories during the game undoubtedly helped with that.

The flamingos not only yielded bonus points but also gave teams the opportunity to snatch points from competitors. The Yellow Showmakers and the Red Guardians, in particular, took eager advantage of this and engaged in a head-to-head battle that caused the standings to fluctuate constantly.

The red team held an unassailable lead for a long time. The yellow team followed in second place for almost the entire game, but eventually dropped back to sixth place in the final stages.

-- Puzzles for the persistent --

Not all challenges were equally easy. The 'Pears All Over The World' and 'City Secrets' rounds proved to be a tough brainteaser for many teams.

The Mystery of the Pear Seeker also demanded the utmost from the participants. Only two teams managed to fully unravel this word search.

During the award ceremony, several solutions were reviewed together, which repeatedly led to recognizable 'Aha!' moments among the participants.

-- An exciting climax at the Market --

After two and a half hours of playing, all teams gathered again at the kiosk in the Market Square of Peer. There, the final scores were processed and the winners were announced.

The battle at the top of the leaderboard remained exciting until the end, although the eventual winner surprised few. The Red Guards held the lead for almost the entire game and maintained that lead until the finish.

Fun fact: City Battle is also a healthy activity. The mayor on duty recorded more than 11,000 steps while evaluating and monitoring the game.

-- Collaboration as the true winner --

What stood out most was the enthusiasm with which almost all teams participated. From creative videos to search tasks and puzzles, the participants fully embraced the story.

After the awards ceremony, the group moved to a terrace to relax and enjoy a refreshing drink. There, they continued to discuss at length the memorable challenges, funny videos, and exciting moments from the game.

For Center Parcs Erperheide, the City Battle proved to deliver exactly what the organization had envisioned: colleagues getting to know each other better, working together outside the familiar work environment, and above all, having a lot of fun. A successful conclusion to a team day that was entirely dedicated to connection and collaboration.

Na een inspirerende voormiddag rond het thema samenwerking, koos Center Parcs Erperheide voor een actieve en speelse namiddag in het centrum van Peer. Met 44 deelnemers, verdeeld over acht teams, trokken het management, de floor managers en andere medewerkers de stad in voor een City Battle van SpongyFun. Het resultaat? Een zonnige namiddag vol teamwork, gezonde competitie, verrassende ontdekkingen en heel wat gespreksstof voor achteraf.

-- Op zoek naar een originele teambuilding in eigen stad --

Voor hun teamdag verzamelde Center Parcs Erperheide de medewerkers in CC 't Poorthuis in Peer. De voormiddag stond volledig in het teken van samenwerking, met een lezing rond teamwork.

Voor de namiddag zocht de organisatie een activiteit die naadloos aansloot bij dat thema. De deelnemers kenden elkaar niet allemaal even goed, waardoor er nood was aan een laagdrempelige activiteit die mensen met elkaar in contact bracht. Via een zoektocht naar een stadsspel in Peer kwamen ze terecht bij SpongyFun en City Battle.

-- Acht teams, één missie --

Onder een stralende zomerzon gingen acht teams de uitdaging aan. Elk team kreeg de opdracht om zoveel mogelijk punten te verzamelen door opdrachten, puzzels, creatieve uitdagingen en zoekopdrachten succesvol af te werken.

Al snel werd duidelijk dat elk team zijn eigen aanpak had. Sommige groepen namen eerst uitgebreid de tijd om alle opdrachten te bekijken en een strategie uit te werken. Andere teams schoten meteen uit de startblokken en begonnen zonder veel overleg aan de eerste uitdagingen.

Die verschillende stijlen zorgden voor een boeiend wedstrijdverloop. Sommige deelnemers liepen letterlijk van opdracht naar opdracht om geen seconde te verliezen, terwijl andere teams bewust kozen voor een rustiger tempo.

-- Een stad vol verrassingen --

Tijdens de City Battle werd het centrum van Peer het speelterrein van tientallen creatieve uitdagingen. Foto-opdrachten bleken bijzonder populair: meer dan 80 procent van alle 'Foto Fun'-opdrachten werd succesvol uitgevoerd.

Ook de ronde 'De Dorpsgek', waarin deelnemers creatieve filmpjes moeten maken en daarbij soms uit hun comfortzone treden, bleek een schot in de roos.

Enkele filmpjes sprongen er volgens de burgemeester (aka de jury) echt uit. De video's rond 'Kijk naar mijn zonnebril', 'De duiven in de moestuin' en 'Twee Italianen na een Vespa-ongeval' zorgden voor heel wat lachende gezichten bij de beoordeling.

Een onverwachte hoofdrol was weggelegd voor een wegenwerker die tijdens het spel werkzaamheden uitvoerde in het centrum van Peer. Omdat verschillende opdrachten vroegen om een foto te maken van specifieke personen, objecten of kleuren, dook hij meermaals op in de inzendingen van verschillende teams.

-- Flamingojacht zorgt voor extra spanning --

Eén van de opvallendste verhaallijnen van de dag was de zoektocht naar de verborgen flamingo's.

Voor het eerst in de geschiedenis van City Battle werden alle acht flamingo's gevonden. De tips die tijdens het spel via Instagram Stories werden gedeeld, hielpen daar ongetwijfeld bij.

De flamingo's leverden niet alleen bonuspunten op, maar gaven teams ook de mogelijkheid om punten van concurrenten af te snoepen. Vooral de Gele Showmakers en de Rode Wachters maakten daar gretig gebruik van en voerden een onderlinge strijd die het klassement voortdurend deed schommelen.

Het rode team stond lang onaantastbaar aan de leiding. Het gele team volgde zowat het hele spel op de tweede plaats, maar zakte in de slotfase uiteindelijk terug naar plaats zes.

-- Puzzels voor de doorzetters --

Niet alle uitdagingen waren even eenvoudig. De rondes 'Peren Over Heel De Wereld' en 'Stadsgeheimen' bleken voor veel teams een stevige hersenbreker.

Ook het mysterie van de Perenzoeker vroeg het uiterste van de deelnemers. Slechts twee teams slaagden erin om deze woordzoeker volledig te ontrafelen.

Tijdens de prijsuitreiking werden enkele oplossingen gezamenlijk overlopen, wat meermaals leidde tot herkenbare 'Aha!'-momenten bij de deelnemers.

-- Een spannende ontknoping op de Markt --

Na tweeënhalf uur spelen verzamelden alle teams opnieuw aan de kiosk op de Markt van Peer. Daar werden de laatste scores verwerkt en de winnaars bekendgemaakt.

De strijd bovenaan het klassement bleef spannend tot het einde, al verraste de uiteindelijke winnaar weinig mensen. De Rode Wachters hadden gedurende vrijwel het volledige spel de leiding in handen en trokken die lijn door tot aan de finish.

Fun fact: City Battle is ook een gezonde activiteit. De burgemeester van dienst noteerde meer dan 11.000 stappen tijdens het beoordelen en opvolgen van het spel.

-- Samenwerking als echte winnaar --

Wat vooral opviel, was het enthousiasme waarmee vrijwel alle teams deelnamen. Van creatieve filmpjes tot zoekopdrachten en puzzels: de deelnemers gingen voluit mee in het verhaal.

Na de prijsuitreiking verhuisde het gezelschap naar een terras om na te genieten met een verfrissend drankje. Daar werd nog uitgebreid nagepraat over opvallende opdrachten, grappige filmpjes en spannende momenten uit het spel.

Voor Center Parcs Erperheide bleek de City Battle precies te bieden wat de organisatie voor ogen had: collega's die elkaar beter leren kennen, samenwerken buiten de vertrouwde werkomgeving en vooral veel plezier beleven. Een geslaagde afsluiter van een teamdag die volledig in het teken stond van verbinding en samenwerking.

Successful Teambuilding

Last week, Spongy Fun organized our team building, and what a fantastic afternoon it was!
From preparation to execution, everything ran smoothly.
The activities were original, well-structured, and immediately brought the right dynamic to the group.
There was a tremendous amount of laughter and collaboration, and the atmosphere was great from the very first minute.
It was the perfect mix of relaxation and team building.

Just Do It!

You might think walking through a city with a team of 100 people or more and completing tasks sounds quite strange. But I was pleasantly surprised. City Battle XL in Bilzen was really cool. You get to know the city in different ways and discover nice spots you wouldn't normally visit—things you don't stop to think about, and certainly wouldn't pay attention to.

Spongyfun has certainly developed a great themed game here with very diverse tasks and fun spots to discover, which is definitely worth doing.
Do you like to win? No problem, go for it!
Would you rather discover what the puzzles teach you? It is worth the effort.
Do you have a team that is a bit softer and likes to play easy? Just go for it!
Or are you as crazy as a hatter and want to become the local village idiot? It's possible!

A super fun team building day!

A super fun team building day at Spongyfun!
With our team of teachers and support staff, we experienced a fantastic team-building day at Spongyfun. We played the city game, where we competed against each other in small teams and could choose from many different, fun tasks.
The activities not only provided the necessary challenge, but above all, a lot of fun and laughter. We had the chance to get to know each other in a different way and also discovered how important good teamwork and communication are.
The variety of tasks, the competitive element, and the friendly atmosphere made it a successful day. An ideal activity to grow closer together as a team!

Great team building activity!

Tom organized the City Battle perfectly from start to finish. The atmosphere was electric right from the start, and you can really feel how much passion he has for the game, which immediately draws everyone in.

The City Battle in Marche-en-Famenne was anything but a standard city game. The challenges were surprisingly varied: from recording funny videos to spotting flamingos or notable landmarks in the city as quickly as possible. What makes this game particularly strong is the freedom you are given. You choose which challenges you want to complete and how you collect your points. As a result, there really is something for everyone, whether you enjoy creativity, speed, observation, or strategy.

The combination of teamwork and a healthy competitive spirit made it complete. We laughed a lot, but at the same time were fanatically focused on scoring as many points as possible.

An original, surprising, and super fun activity that I can definitely recommend!

Fantastic team building activity!

The city game was great not only because it was so well organized, but also because you could decide for yourselves as a team which tasks to take on. Local statues and buildings were also part of the scavenger hunt, making it an extra fun way to get to know a city. Definitely recommended!

Very successful team activity!

During our annual team weekend, we enlisted SpongyFun for a city game in Marche-en-Famenne, and it was an absolute hit!

From the very first contact with Tom, it felt right. He is proactive, flexible, and you can just feel that he has a lot of passion for what he does. Nothing is too much trouble, and he switches gears quickly and enthusiastically when necessary.

The city game itself was great: original, varied, and clear enough so that everyone could follow along immediately. We laughed a lot, worked well together, and enjoyed a healthy dose of competition.

For us, this was without a doubt one of the highlights of the weekend. Definitely recommended if you are looking for an activity that brings people together in a fun way.

Topervaring

We participated in one of the city games with our group and it was a real hit. The game was cleverly put together, with tasks that were both challenging and hilarious. Everyone — from the most competitive player to the quieter participants — was completely drawn into it. It was the perfect mix of teamwork, fun, and a touch of healthy stress. Ideal for team building, outings with friends, or just an original activity. We will definitely be back for another mission!

Highly recommended! SpongyFun was asked to organize a city game during a work weekend. The assignments were so varied that everyone could contribute in their own way. SpongyFun organized a city game for our weekend with colleagues. When we received the explanation of the game, we were all impressed by how well it was put together! It turned out to be a super fun afternoon full of funny, creative, and well-thought-out challenges. For their annual team weekend, a medium-sized IT company from Limburg chose City Battle in Marche-en-Famenne, a city game that has teams moving through the city in a playful and competitive way via on-site assignments and challenges.

City Battle is an accessible city game in which cooperation, communication, and light competition take center stage. The activity is designed so that everyone can participate, regardless of physical condition or experience.

In this case, different approaches emerged: some teams went all out for the win, while others focused more on experience and collaboration. This mix creates a relaxed yet challenging dynamic within the group.

As is often the case with City Battle: winning is fun, but the experience and interaction make the difference.

-- City Battle: variety and freedom in missions --

What makes City Battle so strong as teambuilding and a group activity is the wide variety of tasks and the freedom teams are given.

Teams receive the same set of assignments but cannot complete everything. There are simply too many challenges, meaning each team chooses for themselves which assignments to take on and which route to follow through the city. There is no fixed course, which leads to spontaneous choices and unexpected twists.

The assignments are very diverse: photo and video challenges, cryptic puzzles, city scavenger hunts, interactive tasks with other teams, and lighthearted tasks such as word searches. Additionally, teams can earn bonuses, spot flamingos, and thwart opponents while trying to stay out of the mayor's clutches.

This variation ensures that every team member can take on a role and that everyone remains involved throughout the entire activity.

-- InstaBomma: playful evidence with strong visual value --

A unique element within City Battle is the InstaBomma. Each team is assigned an InstaBomma: a playful character who must appear in every photo or video as proof that assignments were effectively carried out.

During this case, that was implemented in a striking and creative way. One team took the concept completely literally: the InstaBomma was played by a man who dressed up as a grandma, with a kitchen towel as a rain hood and feminine sunglasses as an accessory. In every photo, he deliberately adopted 'bomma poses,' which provided a constant source of humor and strong visuals throughout the game.

The result was not only a hilarious dynamic within the team, but also extra creativity and commitment in carrying out the assignments.

-- Social media as an extra experience --

During the team weekend, a mini-campaign also ran on social media under the name 'Dagje SpongyFun'. The entire journey was shared in stories: from preparation and departure to updates during the game and the concluding BBQ with the group.

A notable moment was a subtle teaser post featuring a close-up photo of a flamingo without context. Within City Battle, searching for flamingos is one of the objectives. The team recognized this immediately and was therefore able to start this challenge sooner, resulting in extra game interaction.

The winning team consisted of four participants, two of whom clearly set the competitive pace. The other team members followed the flow of the game.

At one point, a video was forwarded showing participants performing tasks while running, with the caption: “They’ve started walking here too now!”. This demonstrates how City Battle draws teams into the game in a natural way, without requiring high intensity.

For the group, City Battle was one of the highlights of their team weekend. The combination of competition, humor, teamwork, and unexpected moments made for an experience that lingered for a long time.

Voor hun jaarlijkse teamweekend koos een middelgroot IT-bedrijf uit Limburg voor City Battle in Marche-en-Famenne, een stadsspel dat teams op een speelse en competitieve manier door de stad laat bewegen via opdrachten en uitdagingen ter plaatse.

Met 17 deelnemers speelden ze een sessie van ongeveer 2,5 tot 3 uur. Het concept is volledig schaalbaar en geschikt voor groepen tot 100+ deelnemers en meer, waardoor het inzetbaar is voor zowel kleine teams als grote bedrijfsactiviteiten.

City Battle past perfect binnen de SpongyFun-aanpak: laagdrempelig en duidelijk opgebouwd, maar met net dat tikkeltje hoekje af dat zorgt voor onverwachte momenten en veel humor onderweg.

Zoals vaak bij City Battle geldt: winnen is leuk, maar de ervaring en interactie maken het verschil.

Wat City Battle zo sterk maakt als teambuilding en groepsactiviteit, is de grote variatie aan opdrachten en de vrijheid die teams krijgen.

Teams ontvangen dezelfde set opdrachten, maar kunnen niet alles uitvoeren. Er zijn simpelweg te veel uitdagingen, waardoor elk team zelf kiest welke opdrachten ze oppakken en welke route ze volgen door de stad. Er is geen vast parcours, wat zorgt voor spontane keuzes en onverwachte wendingen.

De opdrachten zijn zeer divers: foto- en videochallenges, cryptische puzzels, zoekopdrachten in de stad, interactieve opdrachten met andere teams en luchtige opdrachten zoals woordzoekers. Daarnaast kunnen teams bonussen verdienen, flamingo’s spotten en tegenstanders dwarsbomen, terwijl ze proberen uit handen van de burgemeester te blijven.

Deze variatie zorgt ervoor dat elk teamlid een rol kan opnemen en iedereen gedurende de volledige activiteit betrokken blijft.

Een uniek element binnen City Battle is de InstaBomma. Elk team krijgt een InstaBomma toegewezen: een ludiek personage dat op elke foto of video moet verschijnen als bewijs dat opdrachten effectief werden uitgevoerd.

Tijdens deze case werd dat op opvallende en creatieve wijze ingevuld. Eén team nam het concept volledig letterlijk op: de InstaBomma werd gespeeld door een man die zich verkleedde als oma, met een keukenhanddoek als regenkapje en een vrouwelijke zonnebril als accessoire. Op elke foto nam hij bewust 'bomma-poses' aan, wat zorgde voor een constante bron van humor én sterk beeldmateriaal doorheen het spel.

Het resultaat was niet alleen een hilarische dynamiek binnen het team, maar ook extra creativiteit en betrokkenheid bij het uitvoeren van de opdrachten.

Het winnende team bestond uit vier deelnemers, waarvan twee duidelijk het competitieve tempo bepaalden. De andere teamleden volgden mee in het spelverloop.

Op een bepaald moment werd een video doorgestuurd waarop deelnemers al rennend opdrachten uitvoerden, met de caption: “Ze zijn hier nu ook al begonnen met te lopen!”. Dit toont hoe City Battle teams op een natuurlijke manier in het spel trekt, zonder dat hoge intensiteit verplicht is.

-- Geslaagd teamweekend --

Voor de groep was City Battle één van de hoogtepunten van hun teamweekend. De combinatie van competitie, humor, samenwerking en onverwachte momenten zorgde voor een ervaring die nog lang is blijven nazinderen.

Een stadsspel met karakter, sterke groepsdynamiek en net dat tikkeltje 'Fun met hoekje af' dat de beleving uniek maakt.
