Dakota Prairie Playhouse

Dakota Prairie Playhouse is a flexible event venue in Madison, South Dakota, operated through Dakota State University’s Events and Conference Services team. The facility combines a substantial theatre with a dedicated conference centre, giving organisers a choice of layouts for professional, cultural and social occasions.

The theatre seats up to 690 guests and is equipped with a projector, sound system and event lighting. It is suited to performances, talks, award ceremonies, presentations, graduations, community gatherings and larger corporate functions. The conference centre accommodates up to 400 guests in banquet seating, or around 500 in lecture-style arrangements, making it suitable for conferences, seminars, receptions, wedding celebrations, dinners and business meetings. Built-in sound equipment, microphones and custom lighting support a wide range of event formats.

The venue can be arranged for different types of gatherings, with professional staff available to help organisers select the right space and plan the practical details. Its adaptable facilities can support events where presentation, dining and entertainment need to work together, while the theatre and conference areas can also provide distinct settings within one location.

Catering is available through Dakota State University’s Sodexo partnership, with menus ranging from informal meeting refreshments to formal dinners. External catering is permitted, although bar and alcohol services must be arranged through the university’s catering operation.
