The Cookery

The Cookery is a distinctive event venue in downtown Durham, offering a collection of indoor and outdoor spaces for weddings, private celebrations and business events. Its 12,000 square feet of grounds bring together a ballroom, a characterful front room with a mezzanine and bar, a cobblestoned garden, a courtyard and a private dressing suite. The exposed brick, industrial details and historic touches give the rooms a strong sense of place, while flexible layouts allow organisers to shape the setting around their occasion.

The venue welcomes wedding ceremonies and receptions, rehearsal dinners, post-wedding brunches, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, bar and bat mitzvahs, corporate parties, seminars, luncheons, university functions, fundraisers and trade shows. Depending on the chosen spaces and layout, the grounds can host seated events for up to 400 guests or cocktail-style gatherings for as many as 500. Smaller room combinations are also available for more intimate celebrations and corporate presentations.

Rental features include tables and chairs, cocktail glassware and an audio-visual system, with additional amenities varying by space. The garden and courtyard offer outdoor options, and the garden can be tented. A full bar with professional bartenders is available, and organisers can select a caterer from the venue's preferred list. The Cookery's team provides venue tours, event information and a tailored proposal, and works with a network of event suppliers to help clients coordinate the details. Alongside its event spaces, the site also houses a commercial food production kitchen and an incubation programme for culinary entrepreneurs.
