John Ball Zoo - Bissell Tree House

The Bissell Tree House at John Ball Zoo offers event planners a distinctive place to host weddings, corporate gatherings and private celebrations in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Set among the trees above the city, this venue combines a bright indoor space with a covered, wrap-around deck and views towards downtown. Floor-to-ceiling windows and adjustable lighting help create a welcoming setting for both daytime meetings and evening receptions.

The Tree House can accommodate up to 180 seated guests during the main season, with a reduced seated capacity in winter. Organisers can choose rental periods of different lengths and arrange a layout with tables and chairs. Audio-visual capabilities, a microphone and podium, a venue coordinator and planning support are available to help with presentations, meetings and celebrations. Guest transport from the Zoo's main parking area is included for private rentals, as parking is not available directly at the Tree House.

For weddings, the space can host a reception and, subject to the venue's arrangements, a ceremony on the deck. Optional additions include bar packages, extra rental time, linens, televisions, discounted Zoo admission and animal meet-and-greet experiences. The venue also welcomes corporate meetings, strategy sessions, appreciation dinners and community events, offering organisers a memorable setting beyond a conventional function room.

John Ball Zoo has other reservable spaces for events, including an outdoor event tent, picnic areas and pavilions, as well as options for private Zoo gatherings. These provide alternatives for casual group celebrations, company picnics and larger occasions. Event bookings support the Zoo's conservation work, while the dedicated rentals team helps organisers discuss availability, room arrangements and event requirements.
