Sylvester organizes the Ultimas for the second year in a row
After a forced, but very much appreciated online edition in 2021, the culture lovers were able to physically meet again this year. About 600 enthusiastic guests gathered in deSingel in Antwerp for the presentation of the Flemish Culture Awards: the Ultimas.
Twelve laureates and a public winner became the happy owners of the renewed Ultima award: Tintin's Jungle, created by artist Daan Gielis. In addition to the coveted award, they also received a nice cash prize.
The Ultima for General Cultural Merit was awarded posthumously to theater icon Reinhilde Decleir, who recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. Like all other laureates, Decleir was told in advance that she had been awarded for her career. During the show she received a beautiful tribute from, among others, her theater company, Tutti Fratelli.
Just like last year, hosts Sofie Lemaire and Thomas Vanderveken talked the show together with grace.
Award shows are always a challenge, but Sylvester's experienced team turned it into an exciting and surprising live show that was broadcast on Radio 1 and VRT.NU. The hour and a half flew by with the catchy tribute to Reinhilde Decleir as the climax.

Na een noodgedwongen, maar zeer gesmaakte online editie in 2021, konden de cultuurliefhebbers dit jaar opnieuw fysiek samenkomen. Zo’n 600 enthousiaste genodigden verzamelden in deSingel in Antwerpen voor de uitreiking van de Vlaamse Cultuurprijzen: de Ultimas.
12 laureaten en een publiekswinnaar werden de gelukkige eigenaars van de vernieuwde Ultima award: Tintin’s Jungle, gemaakt door kunstenaar Daan Gielis. Naast de felbegeerde award ontvingen ze ook een mooie geldprijs.
De Ultima voor Algemene Culturele Verdienste werd postuum uitgereikt aan theatericoon Reinhilde Decleir, die recent overleed na een lange strijd tegen kanker. Net als alle andere laureaten kreeg Decleir al op voorhand te horen dat ze bekroond werd voor haar carrière. Tijdens de show kreeg ze een mooi eerbetoon van onder andere haar theatergezelschap, Tutti Fratelli.
Net zoals vorig jaar werd de show met zwier aan elkaar gepraat door hosts Sofie Lemaire en Thomas Vanderveken.
Awardshows zijn altijd een uitdaging, maar het ervaren team van Sylvester maakte er een boeiende en verrassende live-show van die werd uitgezonden op Radio 1 en VRT.NU. Het anderhalf uur vloog voorbij met als climax het pakkende eerbetoon aan Reinhilde Decleir.
