This week, Studio 6 at AED Studios in Lint was fully equipped with Luxibel's 'Mid-Air Disinfection System'. The installation takes care of the disinfection of the indoor air by means of UVC ventilation cylinders that take the air circulation into account. This makes AED Studios the first event location in the world to permanently disinfect the air present in space with UVC light technology in the fight against COVID-19 and other viruses and bacteria. Glenn Roggeman, CEO of AED group, launched the first UVC luminaires under the AED house brand Luxibel in April. The system was further developed for larger spaces with an audience, where air circulation must also be taken into account. Roggeman used his knowledge of aerodynamics that he acquired during his training as a helicopter pilot. “The most important asset of this system is that we ensure that the air exhaled by the guests present is sucked upwards through the aerodynamically patented system. Microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses are neutralized and germ-free air is blown back into the room. When I take a look at the coronavirus infection rate, I can't help but join the virologists who confirm that the virus is also spreading through the air. If we reunite in enclosed spaces with several people together, air disinfection can help reduce contamination. I would also personally feel more comfortable and safe to visit businesses that have such a system installed. ” Last week, the Dutch company Signify (formerly Philips Lighting) published the test results of UVC light for the corona virus. UVC has been proven to be effective in eliminating the new coronavirus, according to scientists at Boston University. In scientific tests, they concluded that the UVC radiation is very efficient to neutralize the corona virus. Since Luxibel allows the UVC disinfection process to take place in a completely enclosed device, there is no risk of harmful radiation to people. Roggeman emphasizes that UVC disinfection can be an important part of the multidisciplinary approach against COVID-19 and also hopes for perspective for the hard-hit events and entertainment sector. “In addition to the measures related to social distancing, hand hygiene and the use of personal protection, I am convinced that technological innovations can also contribute to better protection. In addition to the 'Mid-Air Disinfection System', I also had scanners developed that we will use at AED Studios to check the body temperature of each visitor at the start of an event. In this way we want to provide our studios with technology to protect our visitors as much as possible. ”
