Nuns Island Theatre

Nuns Island Theatre is a historic performance venue in Galway, operated by Galway Arts Centre. Before closing for major renovations at the end of July 2026, it offered an intimate setting for performances and a range of events, including workshops, training sessions, seminars, conferences, screenings and meetings. The theatre's 82-seat capacity makes it suited to smaller gatherings where an audience can feel close to the stage.

The venue has audiovisual facilities, Wi-Fi and professional production and event staff. Its performance space can support different kinds of artistic and community programmes, while nearby car parks and access from Galway's train and bus stations help with guest arrangements. Wheelchair access is also noted in the venue information. Organisers who needed catering could discuss arrangements through the centre, which connected hirers with a local food provider.

Nuns Island Theatre is part of Galway Arts Centre's wider work with artists and audiences, and has served as a home for performances, screenings and creative activity in the city. It is not currently available for external bookings. Galway Arts Centre says the theatre has closed temporarily for major renovation and renewal, and intends to reopen it after the work. Event planners should check directly with the centre for updates on the project and future availability before making plans.
