Your modern event in a historical monument? The Van Nelle Factory (1930), built from the principles of Light, Air and Space, is regarded as the most prominent building in the 'New Building' movement. After Van Nelle left the factories, the entire complex was redeveloped to its current destination. Where previously Tobacco, Coffee and Tea were processed, now more than 10,000 m2 is used for corporate events, fairs, meetings, parties and conferences. The various rooms make the location suitable for meetings from 2 to 5,000 people.

The nostalgic rooms are fully equipped with all modern facilities such as design furniture, the latest technology and super fast WiFi. The environment with the themes of Light, Air and Space inspires every time to a beautiful interpretation of your event. For each event we look at how the spaces can best be arranged, with our wide diversity of rooms, almost anything is possible! Our experienced team is happy to advise you.

Sustainable and green!

In the Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek we attach great importance to responsible and committed entrepreneurship. We have been in possession of the Golden Green Key for many years and in 2008 the factory received the A label for sustainable monument management from the Government Buildings Agency of the former Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment. The Fair Trade products are also included in our standard range. Of course we would like to think about how we can take care of your event as sustainably as possible!

Good accessibility

The Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek is extremely easy to reach from various directions. The factory is located on the outskirts of Rotterdam directly on the A20, exit Spanish Polder. Parking is no problem; we have a large private parking lot. The location is also easily accessible by public transport, you are at our location in just 15 minutes from Rotterdam Central Station. And you can even reach the Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek by boat or helicopter!

Uw moderne event in een historisch monument? De Van Nelle Fabriek (1930), gebouwd vanuit de uitgangspunten Licht, Lucht en Ruimte, wordt gezien als het meest toonaangevende gebouw uit de stroming 'het Nieuwe Bouwen'. Na het vertrek van Van Nelle uit de fabrieken is het gehele complex herontwikkeld tot haar huidige bestemming. Waar voorheen Tabak, Koffie en Thee werden verwerkt is nu ruim 10.000 m2 is in gebruik voor bedrijfsevenementen, beurzen, vergaderingen, feesten en congressen. Door de verschillende ruimten is de locatie geschikt voor bijeenkomsten van 2 tot 5.000 personen.

De nostalgische zalen zijn compleet voorzien van alle moderne faciliteiten zoals designmeubilair, de modernste techniek en supersnel WiFi. De omgeving met de thema’s Licht, Lucht en Ruimte inspireert iedere keer weer tot een mooie invulling van uw evenement. Voor ieder evenement bekijken we hoe de ruimtes het best kunnen worden ingericht, met onze ruime diversiteit aan zalen is vrijwel alles mogelijk! Ons ervaren team adviseert u graag.

Duurzaam en groen!

In de Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek hechten we veel waarde aan verantwoord en betrokken ondernemen. Wij zijn al jarenlang in bezit van de Gouden Green Key en in 2008 heeft de fabriek het A-label voor duurzaam monumentenbeheer mogen ontvangen van de Rijksgebouwendienst van het voormalige ministerie van VROM. Ook ontbreken de Fair Trade producten niet in ons standaard assortiment. Uiteraard denken wij graag mee hoe we uw evenement zo duurzaam mogelijk kunnen verzorgen!

Goede bereikbaarheid

De Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek is uitermate goed bereikbaar vanuit de verschillende richtingen. De fabriek ligt aan de rand van Rotterdam direct aan de A20, afslag Spaanse Polder. Parkeren is geen probleem; we beschikken over een groot eigen parkeerterrein. Ook met het openbaar vervoer is de locatie goed bereikbaar, in slechts 15 min bent u van station Rotterdam Centraal op onze locatie. En zelfs per boot of helikopter kunt u de Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek bereiken!

Events at Van Nelle Factory in naturally clean air

The largest room of the Van Nelle Factory (the Tabaksfabriek, 4,500 m2, with space for up to 4,000 visitors) is equipped with a new air cleaning system that naturally neutralizes 99.9% of all harmful micro-organisms such as spores, bacteria and viruses. .

With the system, which has been used for more than twenty years in the food industry, in hotels and on cruise ships, the Rotterdam location is taking an important step towards a healthy and safe indoor climate. “As a top location, we want to offer our guests, but certainly also our own employees, not to mention the many dozens of temporary workers who work here every day on major events. A safe and natural indoor climate is an unmistakable part of this,” says Vincent Penseel, general manager of Van Nelle Fabriek Events.

The system was installed by Lamers Reinigingstechniek (in collaboration with Arco Luchttechniek and De Luchtkanaalreiniger), which works with air purifiers with the patented AOP air purification technology (Advanced Oxidation Process). A total of six UV-C LED cells, each equipped with its own catalysts, were installed in the supply channels to the Tobacco Factory. These cells generate harmless oxidants that then quickly deal with the micro-organisms present. Both those that float freely in the air, and the organisms that have settled on hard surfaces.

The fact that the technology also deals with SARS-CoV-2 (the coronavirus) for 99.9% is currently 'a pleasant side effect', according to Sander Lamers. “The corona story has given the concern for a safe indoor climate a major boost. Our main markets are food manufacturers, production sites, hotels and restaurants. They have been working there for decades to keep the air as clean as possible.”

The speed with which the air is cleaned – not only of organisms, but also of odors – is impressive, according to Lamers: ”If you were to place 1,000 cigar smokers in the Tobacco Factory, you would of course smell it the moment they are standing there smoking. But if they are gone for half an hour, you can't smell anything anymore."

The LED cells naturally do their purifying work 24/7, without any residue. The system therefore works continuously and rather invisibly. Sander Lamers and Vincent Penseel thought that was a missed opportunity. So they had a Plexiglas viewing hatch built in the supply duct, so that the blue light from the air-purifying LED lamps is visible to everyone.

De allergrootste zaal van de Van Nelle Fabriek (de Tabaksfabriek, 4.500 m2, met ruimte voor maximaal 4.000 bezoekers) is voorzien van een nieuw luchtreinigingssysteem dat op natuurlijke wijze 99,9% van alle schadelijke micro-organismen zoals sporen, bacteriën en virussen onschadelijk maakt.

Met het systeem, dat al meer dan twintig jaar wordt toegepast in o.a. de voedingsmiddelenindustrie, in hotels en op cruiseschepen zet de Rotterdamse locatie een belangrijke stap naar een gezond en veilig binnenklimaat. “Als toplocatie willen we onze gasten, maar zeker ook onze eigen medewerkers en niet te vergeten die vele tientallen tijdelijke krachten die hier dagelijks aan grote evenementen werken het allerbeste bieden. Een veilig en natuurlijk binnenklimaat is daar een onmiskenbaar onderdeel van,” aldus Vincent Penseel, general manager van Van Nelle Fabriek Events.

Het systeem is aangelegd door Lamers Reinigingstechniek (i.s.m. met Arco Luchttechniek en De Luchtkanaalreiniger) dat werkt met luchtreinigers met de gepatenteerde AOP- luchtzuiveringstechnologie (Advanced Oxidation Process). In de toevoerkanalen naar de Tabaksfabriek werden in totaal zes UV-C led-cellen, elk voorzien van eigen katalysatoren, geplaatst. Die cellen genereren onschadelijke oxidanten die vervolgens razendsnel afrekenen met de aanwezige micro-organismen. Zowel die vrij rondzweven in de lucht, als de organismen die zich op harde oppervlakten hebben genesteld.

Dat de techniek ook voor 99,9% afrekent met SARS-CoV-2 (het coronavirus) is volgens Sander Lamers op dit moment ‘een prettige bijkomstigheid’. “Het corona-verhaal heeft de zorg voor een veilig binnenklimaat een flinke impuls gegeven. Onze voornaamste markten zijn overigens voedselfabrikanten, productielocaties, hotels en restaurants. Daar zijn ze al decennia bezig om de lucht zo schoon mogelijk te houden.”

De snelheid waarmee de lucht wordt gereinigd – niet alleen van organismen, maar ook van geuren – is indrukwekkend, volgens Lamers: ”Als je in de Tabakfabriek 1.000 sigarenrokers zou plaatsten, dan ruik je dat uiteraard op het moment dat ze daar staan te roken. Maar als ze een half uur weg zijn uit de zaal ruik je al niks meer.”

De led-cellen doen 24/7 op natuurlijke wijze hun zuiverende werk, zonder enig residu. Het systeem doet dus continu en tamelijk onzichtbaar z’n werk. Dat vonden Sander Lamers en Vincent Penseel een gemiste kans. Dus lieten ze een plexiglazen kijkluik in het toevoerkanaal bouwen, zodat het blauwe licht van de luchtzuiverende ledlampen voor eenieder zichtbaar is.

It turns out to be extremely difficult to hold the viewer's attention at home. The actual viewing time often turns out to be only 30%. The reason for this is that such meetings are broadcast flat and one-dimensional, without taking into account some iron TV laws. Viewers at home therefore drop out very quickly. In the meantime, they check their e-mail or do something else, ”says Henk van Maanen (Van Nelle Fabriek Events). He used to work in TV and this expertise has led to a new concept for hybrid events: LIVE EVENT TV.

LIVE EVENT TV will retain viewers better by combining two very different disciplines (events and TV) under one roof and forging one whole. The starting point is that the perception of the audience in the Van Nelle Factory is completely different from that of the viewers at home.

Henk van Maanen: “Compare this with the TV report of a football match, King's Day or, as an example, the arrival of Sinterklaas. The audience in the port and along the route experiences the event completely differently from the viewers at home. They are welcomed by Dieuwertje Blok from a studio in the harbor well before Sinterklaas arrives. She takes the viewers home to what is going to happen. A reporter in the harbor interviews the nervous mayor, Dieuwertje talks in the studio with children who are going to perform and there is even a camera on the ship so that the children are already at home on the boat before the children in the harbor can see the ship. . During the event, Dieuwertje provides information and questions from the viewers are answered. Of course there is enough time to make a cup of coffee, eat a sandwich or take a stroll.

This allows you to bring an experience to the living room that is at least as attractive as the event itself.

Vitamin 'D', the Daylight Studio, refreshing for the presenter and guests and the viewers at home!

The studio where the broadcast for home is presented in is of course a Daylight Studio, because the van Nelle Fabriek is famous for the light that enters. This creates a fresh dynamic for the viewers at home who do not have to look at a dark room all the time.

The studio is located next to one of the many green areas of Van Nelle, so in good weather the setting can also be set up outside on the grass, with the famous Unesco Monument as a backdrop.

Door ervaren tv-makers te koppelen aan door de wol geverfde eventmanagers en eventbureaus gaat LIVE EVENT TV een nieuwe impuls geven aan hybride events. Met dit nieuwe concept biedt Van Nelle Fabriek Events een alternatief voor de matige tot slechte kijkcijfers die webinars en hybride evenementen doorgaans scoren.

Het blijkt enorm lastig om de aandacht van de kijker thuis vast te houden. De daadwerkelijke kijktijd blijkt vaak slechts 30% te zijn. De oorzaak daarvan is dat dergelijke bijeenkomsten plat en eendimensionaal worden uitgezonden, zonder rekening te houden met een aantal ijzeren tv-wetten. ‘’Kijkers thuis haken daardoor heel snel af. Ze gaan tussendoor even hun mail checken of iets anders doen,” aldus Henk van Maanen (Van Nelle Fabriek Events). Hij werkte vroeger bij de tv en vanuit deze expertise is een nieuw concept voor hybride events ontstaan: LIVE EVENT TV.

De uitzending voor ‘thuis’ in beeld als een Voetbalwedstijd, Koningsdag of de Intocht Sinterklaas!

LIVE EVENT TV gaat de kijkers beter vasthouden door twee zeer uiteenlopende vakgebieden (events en tv) onder één dak te bundelen en daar één geheel van te smeden. Uitgangpunt is dat de beleving van het publiek in de Van Nelle Fabriek totaal anders dan die van de kijkers thuis.

Henk van Maanen: ”Vergelijk dit met het tv verslag van een voetbalwedstrijd, Koningsdag of als voorbeeld de intocht van Sinterklaas. Het publiek in de haven en langs de route ervaart het event compleet anders dan de kijkers thuis. Die worden ruim voordat Sinterklaas aankomt al verwelkomt door Dieuwertje Blok vanuit een studio in de haven. Ze neemt de kijkertjes thuis mee in wat er allemaal gaat gebeuren. Een reporter in de haven interviewt de zenuwachtige burgemeester, Dieuwertje praat in de studio met kinderen die gaan optreden en er is zelfs al een camera op het schip aanwezig zodat de kinderen thuis al op de boot zijn voordat de kinderen in de haven het schip kunnen zien. Gedurende het evenement zorgt Dieuwertje voor duiding en zijn er vragen van de kijkertjes die beantwoord worden. Uiteraard is er genoeg tijd ingeruimd om even koffie te zetten, een boterham te eten of een ommetje te maken.

Hierdoor breng je in de huiskamer een minstens zo aantrekkelijke beleving als het event zelf.

Op vergelijkbare wijze gaan wij onze live events in de Van Nelle Fabriek combineren met een zeer attractief tv programma voor thuis.”

Vitamine ‘D’, de Daglicht Studio, verfrissend voor de presentator en gasten en de kijkers thuis!

De studio waar vanuit de uitzending voor thuis wordt gepresenteerd in is uiteraard een Daglicht Studio want de van Nelle Fabriek is beroemd om het licht dat binnenvalt. Hierdoor ontstaat een frisse dynamiek voor de kijkers thuis die niet de hele tijd naar een donkere ruimte hoeven te kijken.

De studio ligt naast een van de vele groengebieden van Van Nelle dus bij mooi weer kan de setting ook buiten op het gras worden opgesteld, met als decor achtergrond het beroemde Unesco Monument.

Een opdrachtgever omschreef dat heel mooi: “We kregen veel reacties op het daglicht in de studio, een verademing! We noemden dit de Vitamine D (van Daglicht!) van ons event!”

Digitaal platform

Het concept van Van Nelle Fabriek Events beschikt ook over een goed werkend platform in combinatie met subsessies. Van Nelle Fabriek Events biedt het totaal plaatje met een ruim netwerk aan tv- en eventprofessionals. Redacteurs, regisseurs, floormanagers, technici, belichters, cameramensen staan klaar om ingezet te worden om het evenement volgens de hoogste normen uit te zenden.

De verbinding met de Van Nelle Fabriek kan niet uitvallen d.m.v. eigen Datacenter

De Van Nelle Fabriek is goed geëquipeerd voor deze nieuwe vorm van hybride evenementen. De locatie beschikt over 12 zalen met daglicht en van groot tot klein. Het grootste datacenter van Zuid-Holland (SmartDC) staat pal naast de evenementenlocatie. Hierdoor beschikt LIVE EVENT TV over TV Norm verbindingen, rechtstreeks naar de carriers van het internet zonder tussenkomst een provider die zomaar kan uitvallen. In de van Nelle Fabriek hangt een uitzending dus niet ‘aan één draadje’ en is de investering in het evenement en de uitzending nooit in gevaar.
