Sustainability in the events industry is no longer a nice-to-have. It's a baseline expectation from clients, attendees, and, increasingly, regulators. The question is no longer whether to act, but how seriously you're willing to commit.
Easyfairs, the Belgian-headquartered event organiser, which runs 110 event titles across 16 countries, has just released its second annual Sustainability Report, and the numbers make for encouraging reading - not just for the company itself, but for the broader industry it represents.
Environmental figures
Since its 2019 baseline, the company reports a 34% reduction in total CO₂ emissions, a 64% cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and a 27% decrease in carbon intensity per event. To support ongoing measurement, Easyfairs deployed a new ESG platform this year to track its annual carbon impact.
The report not only highlights achievements, but it also acknowledges areas where further improvement is needed, which the company frames as part of its commitment to transparency.
Events and social impact
Beyond the environmental data, the report covers how individual events are being used as platforms for broader social engagement. According to the figures published, 75% of Easyfairs events now incorporate sustainability into their content programmes, and 76% partner with a charity. The company states that these initiatives aim to support local economies and promote inclusion and skills development in the communities where its events take place.
Internal metrics
On the people side, Easyfairs reports an Employee Net Promoter Score of 34 and notes that 49% of its Senior Leadership Team are women. The company also received "Best Managed Company" status from Deloitte for the seventh consecutive year in 2025.
What's next
The report positions sustainability as an ongoing process rather than a destination. Chief Sustainability Officer Nil Sönmez stated that the goal is to ensure the economic impact of the company's activities does not come at the expense of environmental resources, with sustainability integrated into how events are designed, delivered and developed.
